YMCA Membership Financial Assistance

Updated: Apr 18, 2023

Just recently they built a brand new YMCA a mile away from where my little boy and I live.

It is a beautiful facility with so much to offer from yoga, spin, rock climbing, group exercise classes, virtual exercise classes, arts and crafts, youth camps and sports, and so much more! They even offer local childcare and preschool programs. Our location even features a small library right outside the main building that all members have access to. What I love most about the YMCA is that it is dedicated to its community and giving back. The Treasure Valley Family YMCA believes that everyone, regardless of their financial situation, deserves access to our services. No one is denied the Y’s service due to the inability to pay.

Income-based financial assistance is available to all who qualify, including those who are being impacted by the current government shutdown. Assistance is available for all programs the Y offers.

These past two years have been a little bit of a struggle for me as a full time single mom raising a little boy pretty much alone. This year I have started asking for more help, because I thought I could do it all on my own, but I realized really fast how burnt out I became. My physical and mental health was extremely affected by the way I was living my life. It was a non-stop GO-GO-GO with owning my own company, working full time, doing random hide hustles to make some extra cash on the side, to being a mom, cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping, church, Sunday school activities/events, preschool drop off, pick up, soccer practice/games, gymnastics, and now baseball practice/games. It was a lot…and it was exhausting… I swear these last two years I have aged more than I ever have in my life, and I know it is because of all the life changes from heartbreak, divorce, pain, anxiety, and stress that I have endured. I neglected myself during this time. After being laid off from COVID and money being tight, I wasn’t able to afford some of the luxuries I was able to before. Although, I have realized how important it is to take care of my mental and physical health. Not only am I in better health, but I am also a better mother. One thing I have been extremely grateful for is the service that the YMCA provides to families and it’s community members. Just being able to afford a membership to the Y for my little boy and I with their financial assistance program has truly made the quality of our lives better. He enjoys it just as much as I do and we are able to go together. If it weren't for their financial assistance program I would not be able to afford this simple luxury for the both of us, so we are extremely grateful for the YMCA and all that it does for its community members.

“Health and wellness often loses priority when financial uncertainty occurs and the YMCA offers hundreds of programs, youth, adults, and families can access to achieve healthy living.”

Anyone in need is encouraged to visit their local YMCA branch to apply for financial assistance towards YMCA membership or Y programs. YMCA facility locations and program information can be found at ymcatvidaho.org. The process of getting financial assistance is pretty straightforward. First you will want to get hold of the financial assistance director at the facility you would like to become a member of. They will provide you with all of the information and paperwork you will need. You will need to submit your financial records and tax returns (all of your information is kept confidential). After submitting everything, they will do a review of your financial situation and will let you know based on your financial status the discount percentage that you qualify for to be applied to the monthly membership fees. *You can even submit a request of how much you think you can afford for a monthly membership. It’s not guaranteed that it will be approved, but it doesn’t hurt to ask.

About the Treasure Valley Family YMCA
