Daycare Grants and Child Care Assistance for Single Moms

Updated: Feb 12, 2022

Being a single mom is not always an easy task. Sometimes it can be so overwhelming we

don’t know how or who to ask for help. I am providing this information to anyone who does need help but doesn’t know where to start.

As a single full-time mom myself I have struggled and have needed help, but had no idea where to start or where to find help, so I just had to start researching as much as I could. Through my research, I have found so many helpful resources available to single moms. As I know it can be stressful and hard to find time to find these on your own, that is why I created The Thrifty Single Mom Blog, in order to share my research, findings, resources, and advice in hopes that it will help all of those who need it.

Child care assistance is available in each state:

Where to find free daycare “near me” or cheap daycare

To find free or low-cost daycare options in your area, visit childcare.gov to search for licensed providers and financial resources. The website provides a comprehensive list of assistance programs and discounts available to families who need help paying for child care.

YMCA

YMCA programs across the country offer child care for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. Some centers provide free or low-cost care for families who qualify based on income and other criteria. Search for a YMCA location near you to find out which programs and services are available.

YWCA

YWCA serves more than 200,000 children annually through its affordable child care, Head Start, and preschool programs. Search the YWCA website for programs and services offered in your area.

Child Care Assistance for Single Mothers

Modern single mothers often work full time and possibly go to school so child care is a necessity. However, it can be quite expensive. Fortunately, there are programs that provide child care assistance at the state and local levels.

Head Start

Head Start is a federal program that provides educational, healthcare and nutrition services to low-income children. Single mothers prepare their preschoolers for life in elementary school. Use the online locator tool to find a Head Start center near you or call 1-866-763-6481. Visit the website link for more information.

Early Head Start

Early Head Start is the Head Start version for infants and toddlers. The program provides resources for low-income and/or disadvantaged children. Use the Head Start locator to find a center in your area. Visit the website link for more information.
